Hair Loss And Weight – Can Your Hair Fall Out If You’re Too Thin?
March 14th, 2012
Can hair loss be affected by weight gain or weight loss? If you become Angelina Jolie-skinny, could your hair suddenly fall out, and if it does, will it come back? And does being overweight put you at greater risk for losing your hair?
When I first noticed my hair was thinning, it was about ten years ago, and my body was at the thinnest it had ever been. In the past I've always been at a normal weight for my height (around the middle of the BMI - body mass index), but in my mid 20s I had ...
Lack Of Empathy – No One Cares I’m Going Bald
February 9th, 2012
One of the most shocking and disheartening aspects of my hair loss experience is the complete lack of empathy from just about all of my family and friends. I'm not alone with this - countless women report the same issue, and obviously it makes the emotional impact of hair loss that much worse. Nothing makes you feel more alone than knowing you're going bald and no one cares.
I get sympathy and empathy mixed up because they are similar. Sympathy means someone feels sorry/sadness/pity for your ...
HairDX – The Hair Loss Test
October 25th, 2011
Guess what? I finally got the HairDX hair loss test done. Are you ready to find out once and for all the cause of my hair loss???? About a year ago I wrote about HairDX, which is the genetic test to determine if you have hair loss caused by genetics (Androgenetic Alopecia) - it tells you if you have a high or low androgen sensitivity. At the time I wasn't sure I wanted to do the test because of the cost, and I figured I already knew I had genetic hair loss due to my receding hairline, and th...

Birth Control & Hair Loss – My Story
June 20th, 2011
Birth control - especially the pill - is commonly used to control hair loss, but hair loss is also a common side effect from hormonal birth control. So what are you supposed to do? Here's my personal story about taking the pill and how it may or may not have contributed to my hair loss. This is a long story!
• When I first started the pill
I've always been very cautious so even when I was young I would think about possible consequences to my actions. In college I decided to go on the ...
Hair Loss Treatment Update
March 21st, 2011
Yet again I've started a new hair loss treatment plan and I wanted to write a quick update. I went for my three month follow up Dermatologist appointment today. Since I'm on spironolactone the doctor wants to see me often to make sure I'm not having horrible side effects (I'm not). The Derm I've seen the last few times switched locations across town, and I was given the option to stay at my current clinic location, but to see her Physician Assistant instead. I jumped at the chance because I was...
From Thick To Thin – My Hair Loss-Induced Identity Crisis
March 13th, 2011
For the last several years I've been having an identity crisis, caused by my hair loss. I was always known as "the girl with the thick curly hair" and I was defined by my hair. Now when I look in the mirror I don't see myself, and it freaks me out. I just had a dream where I was looking at current pictures of myself, and there I was with the thick hair that I no longer have in real life. When I think about how people describe others, it usually starts with the hair. To describe most my friends, ...
Depression And Hair Loss
February 18th, 2011
Depression, and especially severe depression, can cause hair loss, and as anyone that has experienced hair loss can tell you, hair loss can absolutely lead to depression. This vicious cycle leads to feelings of hopelessness and despair, but through my own experience, I believe there is hope for helping depression, and the depression caused by hair loss.
• Depression causes hair loss
Doctors argue whether or not depression can cause your hair to thin and fall out, and if it does, how s...
New York Hair Loss
October 20th, 2010
While in New York City last week, I noticed an epidemic of female hair loss! I'm not trying to be rude, but I felt like everyone had thinning hair, and it made me feel "normal" for a few days. Whenever I go out in public, all I look at are women's heads (I know this is horrible), and here in Las Vegas, I'd say 5-10% of women have noticeable hair loss (noticeable to me, which doesn't even mean anyone else would notice it).
In New York City, 20-30% of the women I saw had thin hair, and t...
Mercury Fillings And Hair Loss
September 24th, 2010
A lot of women are told the cause of their hair loss is all in their head, but what if it truly is? Silver mercury amalgam fillings in your teeth are a possible culprit of hair loss. Do you have mercury fillings in your mouth right now?
At this point I've been researching hair loss for about 10 years, and I've had so many different tests, and ruled out almost all causes of my hair loss. Chances are it's just genetic, but what I haven't been able to rule out yet are my silver...
